This quick and easy to make Soda Bread goes perfectly with some real butter slavered on top!
Dreamy Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients
- 250g plain wholemeal flour
- 250g plain white flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 400ml buttermilk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°c Fan
In a large bowl combine the 2 flours salt and bicarbonate of soda
Create a well in the middle and add half the buttermilk
Mix carefully with one hand
Continue adding more buttermilk until all the flour is absorbed and you finish with sticky dough
Place your dough on to a lightly floured surface and form into a ball by bringing the edges down and under (don't knead this dough too much)
Pu your dough ball on to a baking sheet and press down the top lightly to create a slightly flattened top
Using a sharp knife, cut a cross deeply into the dough and dust the top with some flour
Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom
Remove and place on to a cooling rack
Best eaten on the day, try it with some lovely real butter!
